As the most water-scarce region in the world, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region is facing a growing water crisis. Rivers and springs are drying up, deserts are spreading, and people in the region are increasingly struggling to access clean, safe drinking water at affordable prices. Food security is also threatened as the region’s population continues to increase in the face of dwindling water resources.
Projections show that this situation is set to worsen over the coming decades: the amount of water available to each person in the region is expected to drop by a further 50% by 2050 as a result of population growth, resource over-exploitation and climate change. It is therefore crucial to create a new awareness of the importance of water for life and prosperity in this arid region.
Fanack Water aims to help raise such awareness by providing wide-ranging, objective and up-to-date coverage of water and its management in the region, and propose simple technical solutions for the growing scarcity. Combining feature articles, interviews and opinion pieces with thoroughly researched Water Files, Fanack Water seeks to highlight the key challenges facing the MENA region, and present innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
Fanack Water is part of Fanack, a digital publisher that provides insight and background analysis of key issues dominating the political, social and economic scene in the MENA region.
